You can reach us about privacy at [email protected].This policy explains how we collect, use, and share personal information when you visit www.howtocontract.com, buy our courses or memberships, join our community, register for our webinars and events, use our AI-powered features, or receive our emails.
In short: What you give us when you sign up, buy, register, or post. What you type into our AI features. Basic usage data collected automatically.Information you give us. We collect the information you provide when you create an account, make a purchase, register for a webinar or event, join our community, contact us, or subscribe to our newsletter. This typically includes your name, email address, company, job title, and the content of your messages and community posts. If you register for a webinar, we collect your registration details and attendance information.Payments. When you buy something, our payment processor, Stripe, collects your payment card details. We do not store your card number on our systems. We keep records of your purchases.AI features. Some of our services include AI-powered features that let you submit questions and prompts. We collect the prompts you submit and the responses generated so we can operate and improve these features.Do not submit confidential information to our AI features. That includes privileged material, client names, deal terms, or any information you owe someone else a duty to protect. Use these features the way you would use a public search tool. They are for learning, not for client work product.Collected automatically. When you visit our site, we automatically collect your IP address, browser and device information, pages viewed, and similar usage data through cookies and analytics tools. Section 4 explains this in more detail.

In short: Essential cookies plus Google Analytics. No ad pixels. You can opt out of analytics.We use cookies and similar technologies to run the site and understand how visitors use it. We use essential cookies that make the site work, and analytics services, such as Google Analytics, that help us understand site traffic and usage. Google Analytics collects information such as your IP address, device information, and pages visited. You can learn how Google processes this data at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites, and you can opt out of Google Analytics with the browser add-on at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.You can also control cookies through your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may affect how the site works.We do not currently use advertising pixels or sell browsing data for targeted advertising, and we have turned off Google Analytics advertising features. If we begin using advertising technologies in the future, we will update this policy first and provide the opt-out choices that apply.
In short: Service providers who work for us, and event sponsors when you register for a free webinar. Nobody else gets your information for their own marketing.Service providers. We share personal information with service providers that help us run the business. They may use your information only to provide services to us. Our key providers include LearnWorlds (course platform), Beehiiv (newsletters, website, and course-related services), Stripe (payment processing), Guru (AI-powered knowledge features), Calendly (scheduling), Google Workspace (email and documents), Riverside (webinar recording), and Descript (audio and video production).Sponsored webinars and events. Many of our free webinars and events have sponsors. When you register for a free webinar or event, we may share your registration information, such as your name, email address, company, and job title, with the event’s sponsors. Sponsors may contact you about their products and services, and their use of your information is governed by their own privacy policies. Sponsors are sometimes confirmed after registration opens. We name each event’s sponsors in the reminder emails we send before the event. We also add webinar registrants to our mailing list. Every marketing email we send includes an unsubscribe link. If you do not want your information shared with sponsors, do not register for our free webinars and events. Some state privacy laws may treat this sharing as a "sale" of personal data. Where those laws apply to us, you may exercise the opt-out rights described in Section 8.Everything else. We may share personal information if we sell or reorganize our business (we will notify affected users), to comply with legal process, to enforce our terms, or to protect the rights and safety of How to Contract, our users, or others. We do not share your information with third parties for their own marketing except as described in the sponsored webinar paragraph above.
In short: Guru and Beehiiv power them. Your prompts are not used to train third-party models. Responses are education, not legal advice.Our AI-powered features run on third-party platforms, currently Guru and Beehiiv. When you submit a prompt, these providers and their subprocessors process it to generate a response. Guru states that customer data is never used to train third-party AI models and is not retained by those models after processing. Beehiiv processes personal data under its data protection terms, which limit its use of that data to providing its services on our instructions. We may review prompts and responses to maintain quality and prevent misuse.AI responses are for general education only. They may contain errors, they are not legal advice, and no attorney-client relationship is created by using these features. Verify anything important before you rely on it. And again, do not submit confidential or privileged information.
In short: As long as we need it for the purpose we collected it, then we delete or de-identify it.Accounts and purchases. We keep account and purchase records for as long as your account is active, plus the period we need for tax and legal records.Marketing lists. We keep you on our marketing lists for as long as you are subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we stop sending you marketing emails and keep a record of your request so we can honor it. You are resubscribed to the list if you later request to be added by submitting your email. You also are resubscribed if you register for one of our free webinars, because joining our mailing list is part of webinar registration, as stated on each registration page. If you want to stay unsubscribed, do not register for our free webinars.Webinars, community, and AI. We keep webinar and community data for as long as the related content or community remains active, and AI prompts and responses for as long as we need them to operate and improve those features.When we no longer need information, we delete it or de-identify it.
In short: See, correct, or delete your information free of charge. Extra rights may apply under state law and, for EU and UK users, GDPR.Everyone. You can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time using the link in every email. You can access and update your account information by logging in, or by contacting us. You can ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, all free of charge. Email [email protected] and we will respond within 45 days. We may need to verify your identity first. We will not penalize you for exercising any privacy right.US state privacy rights. Depending on where you live, state law may give you specific rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information, and to opt out of targeted advertising, sales of personal data, or certain profiling. To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected]. If we decline a request, you may appeal by replying to our decision, and we will respond to your appeal within the period your state law requires. You may also use an authorized agent where your state law allows it.European Union and United Kingdom. How to Contract LLC is the controller of personal data described in this policy. We process personal data to perform our contracts with you, for our legitimate interests in running and promoting our business, with your consent where required, and to comply with legal obligations. In addition to the rights above, you may have rights to restrict or object to processing and to data portability, and you may lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. We are based in the United States, and our providers process data there. Where required, transfers rely on safeguards such as standard contractual clauses entered into by our service providers.
In short: Reasonable safeguards and careful vendor choices, with no promise of perfection.We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect personal information, and we choose service providers with strong security practices. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee the security of your information.
In short: Our services are for adults 18 and over.Our services are for adults. You must be at least 18 to use them, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
